Where the hell is Matt?

Check out this video. It made me...cry? Inexplicable--beautiful piece of art. I embeded the video but recommend you go to the site and see it bigger for a better effect. If I get a high def camcorder, can I make the world a better place? Matt Harding did.

Carlin Redux

Don't get me wrong. If there were a Mount Rushmore for stand up comedians George Carlin would be on it. His work in the 70s and 80s was legendary - from the Seven Dirty Words to his absolute classic comparison of Football and Baseball - he was one of great ones. But in recent years - and over much the past couple of decades - he was shell of his old self. Maybe it was the drugs and the booze, maybe it was his advancing age, maybe it was ill health, but the Carlin of the 90s and 00's, was most definitely not the Carlin of old.

Hester and I had the misfortune of catching the man do a set in Atlantic City in the last couple of years. To say that he bombed would be charitable. The man came out and admitted that he did not really know his routine so he might occasionally need to refer to some notes. And refer he did - reading most his act during at least the 45 minutes we stayed. The quickest of the quick had become the slowest of the slow and the dullest of the dull.

It's a shame, but Carlin became that champion that hung on too long, like United with the Chargers or Mays with the Mets dropping flies, or Ali fighting Holmes. I only hope that when I think of the man, I won't think of the man I saw in AC, but I'll think of Unitas with the Colts or Mays with the Giants or Ali when was "The Greatest" before Vietnam. I guess only time will tell.

RIP George Carlin

I didn't follow Carlin much but he had some great commentary and when I did catch his stand-up, I appreciated his combination of humor and intellect.

The mid-season finale

John Adams here, back from a week at Disney World. No doubt more on that later. On my return, I watched the "mid-season" finale of Battlestar Galactica. It was great, and the later half of the season starts in January. That's right. No. Wait a second. That's not right at all. That's fucking bullshit.

Since when did shows get these fucking mid-season breaks? LOST started it in my TV world. Heroes does it. And now Battlestar brazenly calls a 6 month break between episodes a "season." No fuckwads. It's not. A 6 month break between episodes is the END and then later a START of a season.
