When All Else Fails - Lie

Anyone catch the final presidential debate last night? During the debate, McCain accused Obama of funding a group called ACORN which McCain described as being "now on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history ... maybe destroying the fabric of democracy." That's right, according to McCain - ACORN's activities might be destroying the fabric of democracy. Listen for yourself.

Concerned about the imminent destruction of our society as we have known it, I decided to do some research on ACORN. Consulting various sources - such as www.factcheck.org (yes reader Biden I have given proper attribution) - I discovered that far from perpetrating "one of the greatest frauds in voter history" much less potentially "destroying the fabric of democracy," a handful of ACORN workers - who were apparently paid by the volume of voters they registered - were making up names of voters and registering non-existent people to bilk ACORN out of a few bucks. That is, these unscrupulous ACORN workers were not trying to facilitate illegal voting - as McLiar intimated - they were simply cheating ACORN. As the Republican Prosecutor Dan Satterberg of King County, Washington said:

"A joint federal and state investigation has determined that this scheme was not intended to permit illegal voting. Instead, the defendants cheated their employer. ... It was hardly a sophisticated plan: The defendants simply realized that making up names was easier than actually canvassing the streets looking for unregistered voters. ... [It] appears that the employees of ACORN were not performing the work that they were being paid for, and to some extent, ACORN is a victim of employee theft."

So rather than discussing the real issues, McNasty has once again resorted to slander, innuendo, and fear mongering - not the traits this voter wants in a Commander in Chief.

For much more on the real McCain, see Tim Dickinson's excellent piece in RollingStone: "Make-Believe Maverick." http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/make_believe_maverick_the_real_john_mccain

How come Obama has to keep disowning friends and associates? Every time a controversy arises regarding one of his buddies, he doesn't know them, wasn't there, etc. He makes teflon Bill look sticky.
